Lindbergh's Andy Broughton celebrates after scoring the tie-breaking goal.

Lindbergh fell behind 1-0 but scored three unanswered goals en route to a 3-1 win over St. Louis U. High Thursday at the South County Ice Rink.

The victory pushed Lindbergh over the .500 mark at 2-1-1, while SLUH (0-3) remains winless.

“We are a team that has to fight and claw for everything we get, and I think that the kids, as a rule tonight, worked hard,” Lindbergh coach John Murray said. “We got down 1-0 but were able to reach down inside and come back.”

The Jr. Bills got off on the right foot when Mark Abram backhanded a rebound past Lindbergh goalie Kenton Winfield with 2 minutes 32 seconds left in the first period.

But things went south for the Jr. Bills after that.

“After the first period, we just kind of backed off and sat around and watched," SLUH coach Charlie Busenhart said. “We didn’t forecheck. They forechecked us and knocked us off the puck.”

Matt Ullrich tied the game on a breakaway goal at 8:30 of the second period, and it remained a 1-1 game heading into the third period.

A tripping penalty to SLUH’s David Bosch at 12:56 of the third period gave the Flyers’ power play a chance, and it only took 18 seconds for Lindbergh's Andy Broughton to snap the tie with a power play goal.

Jeff Zelenovich added an insurance goal with 4:42 to play on a wrist shot from the blueline.

Meanwhile, Winfield did his part to keep the Jr. Bills from mounting a comeback.

“He held the fort back there when we made a couple of turnovers in our end and did a nice job,” Murray said.
