Last Wednesday, coaches from Florida, Missouri, Illinois and St. Louis University went to the Pattonville Tournament to watch Chaminade sophomore Bradley Beal.
They should have seen him Friday.
Beal, a 6-foot-3 shooting guard, scored a tournament-record 51 points to help the Red Devils rally to beat Metro Catholic Conference rival CBC 92-85 in overtime in the tournament’s third-place game.
"That’s how great he is," Chaminade coach Kelvin Lee said.
Beal, who averaged 8.2 points per game as a freshman, scored a career-high 25 points in the Pattonville semifinals against McCluer. In the third-place game, he scored 26 points in the fourth quarter and made five straight 3-pointers, including a heave from half court in the final seconds that tied the score.
"When I put it up," Beal said, "I knew it was going in."
Beal, whose many scholarship offers include Florida, Missouri and Illinois, is averaging 29 points per game. Chaminade (3-1) plays at Vianney on Friday night.
