Ladue beats Ursuline with late goal
STLTODAY PREP SPORTS

Ladue goalie Natalie Dobbin dives out to make a save on Ursuline's Ashton Abbadessa during the first half of Tuesday's game at Ursuline.

Ladue has advanced to the Midwest Field Hockey Tournament final four for the first time in school history.

Carter Newton's goal off a penalty corner with no time left on the clock lifted the Rams to a 1-0 victory over host Ursuline on Monday.

It was the second consecutive thrilling playoff victory for Ladue, which defeated Clayton on a goal 14 seconds into overtime in a first-round game on Saturday.

"That's rather exciting," Ladue coach Barb Dwyer said. "It kind of gets your heart going."

Ladue, the fifth seed, will meet top-seeded St. Joseph's in a semifinal game Thurday at St. Joseph's at 3:30 p.m.

"It's got to give the kids confidence in their abilities to score at the end," Dwyer said. "We are really excited to be in the final four."
