DeSmet's Stephen Pace tries to break free from the grasp of Howell's Cody Johnson.

DeSmet 52, Howell 0 — In a clash of Post-Dispatch top-10 squads, it was all Spartans.

Steve Kaiser, who started as a freshman at Howell before transferring, completed 13 of 18 passes for 241 yards and four touchdowns to lead third-ranked DeSmet (10-0) to the Class 6, District 5 title. No. 8 Howell is 8-2 and also will advance as district runner-up.

Kaiser threw a pair of scoring strikes to Durron Neal and one each to Teddy Corwin and Stephen Pace. Pace also returned an interception 16 yards for the game's final score.

DeSmet's Malcolm Agnew chipped in with a pair of rushing touchdowns.

Westminster 21, Duchesne 3 — The host Pioneers (1-9) scored first, but eighth-ranked Westminster (8-2) took control from there, wrapping up the Class 4 District 6 title.

Westminster's victory also puts third-ranked MICDS (8-1) into the playoffs.

Westminster got a second-quarter touchdown pass from Zack Dorton to Nathan Smallwood and closed out the victory with fourth-quarter touchdown runs from Max Piazza and Ryan Alee.

Vashon 21, Beaumont 12 — Darren Fowlkes threw for 267 yards and three scores as the Wolverines (6-3) won their fifth consecutive game and clinched the Class 4 District 4 championship. Fowlkes threw first-quarter TD passes to Darrell Jones (23 yards) and Marvin Stewart (7 yards) and hooked up with Jordon Jenkins for a 34-yard score in the third quarter. Jackson caught six passes for 113 yards.

Carl Calloway had a touchdown run and a touchdown pass for Beaumont (2-8).

Lafayette 21, Marquette 0 — Kyle Green scored on two 1-yard runs in the first quarter and added a 4-yarder in the second, lifting the Lancers (7-3) to a road victory over the Mustangs (2-8).

Oakville 19, Fox 13 — The visiting Tigers (7-3) got a touchdown run and a touchdown catch from Paul Taylor, rallying from a 13-7 halftime deficit to beat the Warriors (8-2) for the Class 6, District 1 title. Fox also will be advancing to the playoffs.

Taylor caught a 23-yard pass from Joe Plassmeyer and added the go-ahead touchdown with a 1-yard run with 5:22 to play. Oakville's other score came on a 15-yard pass from Darrion Moore to Mike Cyliax.

Fox scored on first-quarter runs by Thomas Robbins (10 yards) and D.J. Chambers.


ILLINOIS GAMES

O'Fallon 16, Lincoln-Way Central — Tivon Taylor recovered a blocked punt in the end zone in the first quarter and and returned a fumble 35 yards for another touchdown in the fourth, lifting the fifth-seeded Panthers (7-3) to a Class 7A playoff road victory. Lincoln-Way Central finished 6-4.

O'Fallon's Kurt Rosenbaum booted a 37-yard field goal in the final minute of the half to put O'Fallon on top 10-0.

Lincoln-Way East 35, Belleville West 7 — Top-ranked Lincoln-Way East (9-1) got three touchdown runs from Kevin Stark and a pair of Ryne Van Gennep-to-Brandon Jackson scoring passes to get by the visiting Maroons (5-5) in a first-round Class 7A game. West's Jack Wagner scored his team's lone touchdown, returning a fumble 8 yards in the third quarter.
