Wright City football In the Wildcats' 42-20 victory over Orchard Farm, Davis, a 5-foot-10, 175-pound junior running back, carried the ball 42 times for 466 yards and six touchdowns. He leads the area in rushing yards (1,769), touchdowns (26) and scoring (158). Davis, who missed last football season with an injury, also participates in basketball, baseball and track. ![]() Brittany Fortner Northwest softball A sophomore right fielder, Fortner finished the season with 51 RBIs in 27 games, four short of the state record for RBIs. She batted .538 with a .753 slugging percentage and was named first-team all-district. Fortner, who played volleyball instead of softball last season, also participates in basketball and soccer. ![]() Lavon Meeks Riverview Gardens football In the Rams' game against Rock Bridge, Meeks, a 5-foot-11, 165-pound junior quarterback, completed 14 of 29 passes for 407 yards and five touchdowns — 71, 41, 21, 5 and 50 yards. In his first year of varsity football, Meeks is currently second in the area in passing yards (1,931) and passing touchdowns (20). Meeks' twin brother Lavell also plays football for Riverview. ![]() Caroline Rouse MICDS golf A junior, Rouse fired a 5-over-par 77 to capture medalist honors at the district tournament at the Landings at Spirit Golf Club. Rouse won by 3 strokes. She earned medals in eight of nine dual and tri-meets this season and finished eighth at the Angel Classic. Last season, Rouse took sixth in the district tournament and 12th at the Class 1 state tournament. ![]() Clark Spalding Granite City golf A junior, Spalding shot the best round of his high school career, a 3-over-par 74 to win medalist honors at the Illinois Class 3A regional at Clinton Hill, helping the Warriors to their first sectional appearance since 1998. Spalding finished second at the Southwestern Conference tournament and took fifth in the Cardinal Creek Invitational. He averaged 1.7 over par on nine-hole events. ![]() Bailey Sparkman Francis Howell volleyball A 5-foot-11 freshman outside hitter, Sparkman was named to the all-tournament team at Pattonville after helping the Vikings capture the championship. Sparkman made key contributions on offense with her jump-serve and attacks and on defense with serve receives and digs. Overall, Sparkman is tops on the team in digs (3.27 a game), serve receiving (164 total, 85.37 percentage) and kills (2.62 a game) and second in aces (23).
