Oakville triumphs, Parkway C. falls
The Oakville Tigers will face the Jefferson City Jays in the final of the Missouri Class 4 softball championship at 3 p.m. today in St. Joseph.
Oakville advanced by defeating Kearney 7-5, and Jefferson City triumphed over Parkway Central 9-1 in the semifinals Friday.
Oakville coach Rich Sturm said the victory Friday was especially sweet, since Kearney (28-2) had defeated the Tigers 2-0 less than two weeks ago.
Oakville (23-5) did all its scoring in the first two innings. The Tigers scored in the first on a three-run homer from pitcher Remy Edwards, who also pitched a complete game. They scored four runs in the second, three on a home run by Julie Kernan.
In the other semifinal, Parkway Central opened the scoring in the first, when Lori Jones walked, stole second and scored on a single by Emily Greenstein. But Jefferson City took control in the second, scoring five runs off Parkway Central starter Cassie Rupel.
The Colts (22-8) will face Kearney at 2 p.m. today in the consolation final.
